Green Meeting Venues
Portland boasts the most Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) buildings per capita in the United States. Many of these, and other green buildings, are available for meetings. A partial list is found below.
EXPO Center:
The Portland Metropolitan Exposition Center is a first-class multi-purpose facility and the region’s primary destination for consumer public shows, trade shows and public events. As far back as 1921, the Expo site presented some of the very largest exhibitions in the Northwest. The Expo Center hosts over 100 popular events annually, attracting in excess of 500,000 attendees.
Gerding Theatre at the Armory:
The former First Regiment Armory Annex was built in 1891. In 2000, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places and in 2006, the remodeled Gerding Theater at the Armory became the first performing arts facility and historic building on the West Coast to receive LEED platinum designation.
Jean Vollum Natural Capital Center / ECOTRUST:
After a century of service as a warehouse for the goods of the industrial economy, Ecotrust revitalized the Jean Vollum Natural Capital Center as a marketplace that fosters the ideas, goods, and services of a conservation economy. Accessible by Portland Streetcar, by bicycle, by bus, on foot and with limited car parking, the Center is located in Portland’s Pearl District on Northwest 10th and Irving streets. A former industrial area, the Pearl District is a fast-growing mixed-used neighborhood of converted warehouses, shops, galleries and new housing.
Center for Architecture:
Home to the American Institute of Architects(AIA)/Portland, this 100+ year old building was recently remodeled and is seeking LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design )Platinum certification. Originally a brick horse stable, the CFA emphasizes sustainability with unique spatial flexibility.
Oregon Convention Center:
In September 2008, the Oregon Convention Center was recertified with the LEED-EB (Existing Building) silver rating from the United States Green Building Council (USGBC), making it the first convention center in the nation to achieve recertification at a higher rating. The new silver rating required proven sustainability accomplishments among areas of operation, maintenance and capital improvements.
